Bay County Looks to Launch EMS Program in High Schools

Summary

What’s happening:

Bay County officials are planning to start an Emergency Services (EMS) training program in local high schools.

Who’s involved:

County commissioners, including Commissioner Daniel Raffield, and the school district Superintendent, Mark McQueen, are coordinating the effort.

What the program would offer:

Students would get early exposure to EMS-type careers such as police, firefighters, EMTs, and possibly lifeguards.

Purpose and goals:

Prepare students so that some can enter first responder roles immediately upon graduating. Help retain trained students in Bay County by giving them local opportunities.  Recognize that not every student is on a path toward becoming a doctor or lawyer, so the county is expanding options in vocational or service roles.

Status & timeline

The program is in planning stages; commissioners want it rolled out as soon as possible to as many high schools as feasible.
